Warnings

1. You must click the [Create New Project] button to register a new project. Simply typing over an existing project won't correctly calculate dates or properly itemize your tasks.

2. You must click a task field twice to edit it. Double-clicking or tabbing to a task field will not make it editable.

3. You must press the [Enter] key to record a task. Failing to do so will erase the task that you type!

4. Dates must be in the YYYY/MM/DD format in order to calculate.

5. To print your work schedule in ascending date order, you must first sort your tasks by ascending date order (by [Work Date] - not by [Due Date]).

Tools to Help You

You can find some helpful tools (beneath the project panel option buttons) that will help you supply helpful information about your tasks.

You will find a calculator that's handy for calculating your project finances or work rates, a calendar, phone dialer and email access in case you need to contact someone with questions, and of course access to the internet for research.

Viewing All Projects

Clicking the [View All Projects] button will display all your projects in a convenient work schedule spreadsheet. You can click a column header to sort the information ascending or descending.

In order to fully benefit from Project Pacer, you are advised to sort your data ascending by clicking the [Work Date] column heading. This action will arrange your days and their corresponding tasks in an order that makes sense and that you can follow.

For example, if you have 5 tasks for 5 different projects, and they need to be completed on the 11th of June, clicking this column header ([Work Date]) will list all the tasks that you need to do for each day so that you don't fall behind. Project Pacer will then list all the tasks that you need to accomplish on the 12th, 13th, and so on until all your projects are complete.

You can click the [Print] button from this window to print a list of your tasks. Having a hard copy of your tasks and the dates that they're to be accomplished ([Work Date]) is very handy!

You can also delete some tasks that you've already accomplished by clicking a task once (selecting or highlighting it) and then clicking the [Delete Items] button. (Multiple tasks or project may be deleted from this window.).

When you're finished with this part of the program, you can click the [Close] button.

Finding Projects

You can search for a project by looking for a task. This is a convenience offered in the event that you can remember that you have to write 10 articles for example, but you just can't remember which project you need to write 10 articles for.

Click the [Find Existing Project] button and enter in a task that you remember. If Project Pacer finds a project that your task belongs to, it will display it in a pop-up dialog box. If not, you won't see anything.

Adding Projects, Dates, And Tasks

To add a project, click the [Create New Project] button. Give your project a name and adjust the dates in the date fields to reflect the time frame that you have to work with. Dates must be in the format that they're presented (YYYY/MM/DD). You can't enter a date in a format like 2/10/02 for example. The correct format for a date like that would be: 2006/02/10.

After you name your project and adjust the dates, press the [ = ] button. This will calculate the number of days that you have to work on your project.

You will see that the number of days you have to complete your project will appear in the Task Table underneath.

Type in each task that you will perform for each of these days. If for example, you discover that you have 5 days to complete a project, your next step would be to break up your project into 5 tasks and then type each one of them on its corresponding day. This is what will 'pace' you throughout your project.

Click a task field twice (do not double-click), type your first task into the field for the first day, and press the [Enter] key. Click the next task field twice (do not double-click), type your second task into the field for the second day, and press the [Enter] key. Do this until you've assigned tasks to each available day.

If you discover that you have more tasks than days, then it's time to double-up or even triple-up on those tasks. Go back and change your task information so that each one of them can be accomplished within the number of available days (your deadline).

You don't need to save your entries - Project Pacer does that automatically. Just remember to press the [Enter] key after typing in a task!

Overview

You can start using Project Pacer immediately by doing four simple things:

1. Entering the name of a project you're working on.
2. Selecting the date that you'll start the project.
3. Entering the date of the project's deadline.
4. Entering the tasks required to complete the project.

Project Pacer is unique in that it will help you pace yourself throughout the completion of your project. With Project Pacer, you no longer have to stress over when work needs to be done because this program itemizes each step of the way and organizes it into a nicely formatted work schedule.

After you (1) enter in a project name, (2) enter in your start/end dates and (3) click the [ = ] button, Project Pacer will calculate the number of days that you have to work on the project - and then allow you to enter in tasks for each one of those calculated days.

To enter a task, click a field twice, type in the task, and then press the Enter key. Project Pacer will record it and you can see it listed with all the other projects you create by clicking the [View All Projects] button.

From clicking the [View All Projects] button, you will see an itemized report (work schedule) of all your tasks. You can sort these tasks by clicking a project name, program name, task name, or due date column header. The most important sort however, is by the work date header. When you click this column header, Project Pacer will sort your tasks according to date. That means you can see the exact tasks that you need to complete everyday in order to stay on track and accomplish things.

If for example, you have three projects that span over a period of seven days, the 'View All Projects' screen (Work Schedule) will display every task you need to do for every one of those seven days. This will enable you to complete your projects *on time*.

Depending upon the start and end dates of your projects, you may have to devote a part of each day to one task of several projects. This is what makes Project Pacer so wonderful. You never need to ask yourself, 'What in the world am I supposed to be doing today?' because Project Pacer lays it all out for you in an easy to understand format.

Once you've completed a task, you can delete it from Project Pacer forever and concentrate on completing your remaining tasks - and you can do this with confidence and comfort in knowing that your time and efforts are regulated in a non-stressful and healthy way.

Should you ever get a little confused and wonder which tasks belong to which projects, you can click the [Find Existing Project] button to match them.

Of course to start a new project, you can simply click the [Create New Project] button.

Installation/Uninstall Instructions

To install the program, extract the files contained in the projpace.zip file onto a floppy disk, or, into its own unique (empty) directory.

To uninstall Project Pacer, simply delete the directory in which you installed it.
